TRY THIS NEXT TIME YOU GET A HEADACHE
Find a comfortable position where you can relax, undisturbed.
Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. Calm yourself and go within.
Begin to imagine that your hands are very, very warm. Imagine what they might feel like if you slipped them into mittens that have just been warming on the radiator. Imagine how warm they would feel if you were warming them over a campfire or if they were wrapping themselves around a comfortably warm rock. Use your imagination to begin to feel your hands are warm.
Now, at the same time, begin to imagine that your head is very, very cold. Use your imagination to do this. Maybe you imagine wearing a football helmet that is made of ice. Perhaps you imagine yourself outdoors on a very cold day all bundled up and protected from the chilly conditions but that your hat is missing and your head has become quite cold. Maybe you picture an icepack sitting atop your head. Use your imagination and notice whatever pictures pop into your mind until your head is cold.
Hold these two feelings simultaneously. Warm hands, cold head. Begin to notice your headache is diminishing. Imagine the blood flow to your head has relaxed and any constriction that was contributing to your headache is loosening and opening up. Continue to stay in this calming state, holding the intention of your headache dissolving, until you feel yourself relax more deeply as the headache drains.
Take a few more deep breaths as you notice what has changed.
